What You'll Learn

Cyber insurance was already difficult for most business owners to decipher. Then AI entered stage left.

Cybercriminals can now use AI to create convincing deepfakes, scale social engineering scams and automate parts of their attacks. Emerging autonomous AI tools also raise a genuinely awkward question:

If an attack is enabled or executed by AI, will an ordinary cyber insurance policy respond?

In this educational webinar, Martin is joined by Brendon Smallsman from Centric Insurance Broking for a practical, plain-English discussion about cyber insurance and the rapidly changing risk landscape.

We’ll look broadly at why a business might consider cyber insurance, the types of costs and assistance a policy may provide, and some of the assumptions that can leave business owners with a dangerous false sense of security.

We’ll then explore how AI is changing the conversation, including deepfake-enabled fraud, AI-driven attacks, “silent” AI exposure and the emergence of AI-affirmative policy wording.

This won’t be a product pitch or a recommendation about what cover your business should purchase. It’s an opportunity to better understand the landscape, recognise where the uncertainty lives and know which questions to raise with a qualified insurance professional.

What We'll Cover

  • What cyber insurance is & the role it plays in a broader cyber risk strategy

  • Why a business might consider cyber insurance

  • The types of incident response, recovery costs and liabilities that policies may cover

  • Common misconceptions about what cyber insurance will automatically pay for

  • Why cybersecurity controls still matter when insurance is in place

  • How AI is changing the way cyber attacks are executed, and how this impacts insurance policies

  • Useful questions to raise with your broker or insurer

  • Live Q&A

OUR DIFFERENCE

We Are Your IT Ibuprofen

We Give A Shit

Other IT providers say they care, but employ staff that don't. We actually give a shit about you and want you to succeed. We've got your back.

No Contracts, Ever

Most IT providers lock you into 12-36 month contracts. Everything we do is month-to-month. We want to earn your business every month.

Put The 'S' in SMB

Most IT providers say they serve SMB, but really focus on the 'M'. We are 100% focused on micro, small & family businesses with under 30 people.

Cyber-First

Most IT providers sell cybersecurity as an expensive bolt-on. Meanwhile, every BizGuard client gets comprehensive cyber-protection as standard.

Support-Optional

Most IT providers charge $$$ for bundled tech support you don't need. With BizGuard, tech support is an optional extra - available if you need it.

Well-Priced

Most IT providers offer questionable value. Meanwhile, over 90% of BizGuard clients say we deliver "Exceptional Value for Money."

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of businesses do you work with?

We work with most kinds of service-based business but have found that we bring exceptional value to those handling personal and sensitive information like brokers, finance & advisory, legal, accounting and medical / allied health.

What size business do you typically work with?

Most of our clients have team sizes between 3 and 30. We also work well with solo operators (including those who are just starting out) but the value of our services increases exponentially as the team grows.

How do you handle industry-specific compliance and data security requirements?

Each business is subtly different but at the end of the day, they all want the same thing: serving as many clients as you can, efficiently, profitably, and with as little risk as possible. We are extremely aware of the biggest cyber-risks impacting Aussie small businesses and we provide compliant solutions and tailored advice to help you meet your obligations and operate securely.

Which industries do you work with?

Most of our clients are in financial services (advisors, brokers, capital, M&A etc), legal, accounting, bookkeeping, allied health or NDIS. Our diverse client-base does also include members of a dozen other industries, but we bring the greatest value to those working with sensitive client information on a daily basis.

We are looking to offshore / outsource parts of our business - can you help?

Yes, managing the risks associated with this is something we advise our clients on all the time. How to outsource or offshore any part of your business safely will depend on several key elements including the model (agency vs EOR vs direct contract/employment) and device ownership (i.e. who owns their laptops - you, the agency or the team member themselves). We can either help you select a model that's right for your needs or manage the cyber-risk of your established arrangements.

We already use Microsoft 365 - what do you actually do differently?

The Microsoft 365 platform provides a range of functionality to help you do business, and an assortment of cybersecurity features to keep you safe. Unfortunately, most business owners that self-manage their IT end up misconfiguring things without realising it. They also aren't aware that most of the security features of this platform need configuration and tuning in order to work at all.

When we are managing and securing your Microsoft 365, you will experience less technical issues and become substantially safer at the same time.

Don't Microsoft already back up our data?

No, they don't. This is a common misconception - what Microsoft do is provide limited data retention. They hold onto your data for a short period after you delete it so that you can get it back (typically 30-60 days depending what it is). If you don't realise it is missing until day 61, or if you've deleted your data in one of the several ways that bypasses this retention, then your data is gone - forever. To give you the confidence in knowing all your business information is protected, we include the backup of your Microsoft 365 data with our service.

Do you only work with Microsoft 365 or do you support Google as well?

We can support Google environments but they come with a lot of their own headaches and challenges. Reach out anyway and we can discuss your situation.

We've got antivirus - that's enough right?

In short, no. Sure, having it is better than not having it. But most antivirus packages are horrifically underpowered to protect against modern threats. Our service includes Managed Detection & Response (MDR) - think of it like antivirus on steroids, with substantially stronger protection and monitored 24x7 by a team of security experts.

Will you take away our admin access?

No, but we will set some rules around how to use it safely. That said, the vast majority of our clients enjoy not needing their admin access anymore because we take care of everything for them. But it is still nice to know you've got it just in case.

Do we have to give you our passwords?

Absolutely not. We will never ask for your passwords and instead ask you to set up separate admin accounts for us to access your systems to ensure traceability (i.e. audit logs show who did what).

How fast do you respond when we need something?

Our average response time is under 15min. If you remove the outliers, it's actually often under 5min - but sometimes it also takes a tad longer. We triage requests based on their business importance and urgency but always try to ensure the fastest response possible.

We're managing OK ourselves, why do we need someone like you?

Mostly, because you don't know what you don't know. Perhaps you're only a small team and already starting to feel the pinch of doing your own IT - maybe you're larger and that still hasn't settled in yet. We've taken on many clients that left it too late because they thought they were doing fine by themselves, until they realised they weren't. To varying degrees, they all had major gaps in their setup they weren't even aware of, and significant cyber-risks that were never on their radar.

Most of them would have saved money and reduced their risk by engaging us sooner and getting their tech right to start with. But they didn't know what they didn't know.

We already have an IT provider - why should we change?

Maybe you shouldn't... But the fact you clicked that ad and have read down this far on the landing page says maybe you should.

Some IT providers are a hot mess. Some of them start out like that, others sell to a bigger firm and become that way. Many simply outgrow their clients or their ability to service them.

Do any of these sound familiar?

❌ Response times getting worse

❌ Hard to get a hold of / call-back

❌ Same issues reoccurring over and over

❌ Mistakes being made more frequently & repeatedly

❌ Prices keep going up even though the service doesn't

Regardless of why it's gone wrong, you deserve a technology partner that actually cares about your business.

Isn't changing IT providers painful?

You would think so, right? But it's actually not at all. Once you introduce us, we'll work with your old provider and handle everything. The make sure the changeover is seamless with no disruption to your business.

What if our current IT provider makes things difficult?

This is something a lot of business owners worry about, but it's virtually never an issue. We commonly come across providers that drag their feet a little and get a bit snippy about losing a client. But the number of IT companies out there that want to actively sabotage a customer transfer are vanishingly small. And even if hostilities did arise, we would work with you through the process to get the right outcome for your business.

We're pretty happy with our IT support and just need better cybersecurity - can you still help?

In most cases, yes. If you have someone doing your IT support in-house, then our service can be very complimentary. We'd love to have a chat about how this could work.

However, if you are already using another IT provider and they aren't looking after your cybersecurity needs, then it will depend on the services they're providing you and whether they play nice with others.

While joint outsourced IT arrangements can work (we have a handful of clients in this situation) it's generally not a good fit for us.

How much is this going to cost us?

Let's put it this way. Pretty much nobody ever argues with us on the cost of our service. Does that mean we are too cheap? Probably. But we're happy with what we make, and we want to price our service to allow us to support and secure as many businesses as possible, regardless of their financial position.
